Pink Valley is a nicely kept secret in the Helderberg wine region, just off the R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West…
Rainy miserable week! dogs and humans were all suffering from cabin fever. Friday afternoon looked promising so we booked for lunch at Pink Valley. WOW, what an experience, from the moment we arrived till we left 3 hours later, was an experience to remember.
Pink Valley is a nicely kept secret in the Helderberg wine region, just off the R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. We had a table on the “Stoep” overlooking the Children’s play area and vineyards. While being taken to our table the dogs were offered a bowl of fresh water and the humans got blankets for the chill.
We were spoiled with a Chef’s selection, which is a good thing because looking at the menu we had no idea what to order, everything looked mouth-watering. There is definitely something for everybody’s taste but the chef chose well for us.
The first to come out was a “Milliebrood” to share with Biltong Butter that we enjoyed with Pink Valley Rose. The dogs enjoyed a bit of play in the play area to get some energy out before settling by the table with a treat of their own that I had packed. Just remember to pack the children’s gum boots (not that the dogs cared about the wet), because, after a week’s heavy rain, it was quite wet in the play area.
Next out of the kitchen came the following plates:
- Spinach Mozerella Balls with Sweet Mustard
- Lentil Dahl, Butternut, corianderer raita and poppodoms
- Sticky pork belly, cucumber, kimchee mayo
- Pekin duck pancake, grapefruit, green onion
What a selection, we were very spoilt. Not even a sliver of pork belly fell to the ground for the much-awaiting dogs. This was enjoyed with a glass of “Le Chant Rouge 2019”, my husband and I are not red wine drinkers, and this was a real treat. Definitely, a wine we would order again or even buy to take home.
Although we were feeling very satisfied, the temptation was just too much and we could not leave before sharing a plate of Churros with a milk tart dip. Perfect ending to a great meal.
Things about Pink Valley to keep in mind:
- Great outside seating (with heaters) and a pizza oven, definitely worth booking if you want a table outside
- Make sure you go hungry as the selection of food on the menu is mouth-watering
- Pink Valley is next to Helderberg Farm, perfect if you want to go walk or run with your dogs while building up that appetite, just remember to buy your permit at the office.
- The play area can get wet during winter, remember to pack the kid’s gumboots
No matter if you have a small or large dog, Pink Valley table setup is perfect as there is enough space for your dog to lie next to your table without bugging the tables around you.
