Profile
The Pequod is a beautiful neat 2-bedroom 2-bathroom holiday cottage with a fully fenced yard that is perfect for dogs. The cottage was fully equipped, there was nothing we needed that we couldn’t find in the kitchen. Best of all the beach is a mere 600 m from The Pequod.
Quiet Seaside Escape
It has been a hectic year for us and the Dogs, so when we got the opportunity to visit tranquil Betty’s Bay we quickly packed our bags.
It was a beautiful day and the coastal drive immediately helped with starting the weekend off on the right note. We picked up our keys for “The Pequod” from an agent “Bee at Bettys” before heading to our home for the weekend.
The Pequod is a beautiful neat 2 bedroom 2 bathroom holiday cottage with a fully fenced yard perfect for the dogs. The cottage was fully equipped, and there was nothing we needed that we couldn’t find in the kitchen. We were pleasantly surprised with a bottle of wine upon arrival, perfect to help with getting into the beach/holiday/relaxing vibe. Best of all is the beach is a mere 600 m from The Pequod.
After arriving we quickly unpacked the car while the dogs explored the yard. With the sun setting so late we decided to take a stroll down to the beach, it was a quick 10 min walk (600 m) to the beautiful open beach where you can turn right and walk towards the dunes or turn left and walk on a beautiful cliff/coastal path. There are great fishing spots along this route aswell.
Back at the Pequod, we started a fire for our Friday night braai. It was a beautiful quiet evening, and we went to bed early as we were all buggered from a busy week, and wanted an early start the next day.
The next morning the weather was miserable, light rain and windy. After Breakfast, we decided to rather go for a walk up the mountain. I read about Rod’s Trail in the info file in the Pequod and according to Google Maps it was only a 5 min drive, so off we went not knowing what to expect. It was a reasonably easy hike (we would score it 3 out of 10 for difficulty) out and back, a total of 4,5 km. The dogs absolutely loved it, but it is not a busy trail so we would not recommend doing it alone. The views and plant life were amazing, and if we had taken snacks I am sure we would have had lunch on the mountain. We came across a few small streams and pools, not big enough to swim in but enough for the dogs to cool down and have a drink.
After our hike, we quickly stopped at the only shop in Betties Bay to buy the 2 items we forgot to pack, eggs and bread for lunch. Back at the cottage, the rain had completely cleared, but unfortunately, the wind has not died down. We made some lunch before Michael decided to go down to the beach and try his luck at fishing. The dogs and I had a lovely time staying behind with a good book.
The next day the wind was a lot worse, making it very unpleasant to fish. So we decided to rather take another walk down to the beach exploring a different path with the dogs. Checkout times are only at 12:00 which makes it perfect to have a relaxing Sunday before driving back home.
We tried different routes from “The Pequod” and all routes are a mere 600m to the Beach. The enclosed yard makes it perfect if you want to leave your dogs behind to go visit the Penguins or drive to the shops in Kleinmond.
The Pequod comes highly recommended for a quick relaxed weekend away and is so well equipped that you could comfortably spend a week or two there while exploring the rest of the Overberg.
