Beautifully furnished 2-bedroom cottage on the Breede river banks, fully enclosed yard perfect for dogs who love to explore.
We highly recommend visiting Bass Haven Stay and seeing for yourself what they have to offer, as no “Review” can really live up to the experience.

Ok, so you packed and ready for your short trip from Cape Town to your ideal pet-friendly weekend getaway, but you are worried you don’t have enough space for you and your fury kids? Well, you can start by unpacking the firewood, firelighters, braai grid, coffee, tea, one of your fresh breads (and even a complimentary bottle of wine!!), and milk because when it comes to all those “little extras” Bass Haven has got you covered. There is a short section of gravel road leading up to the beautifully secluded cottage that is well-maintained and fine for a normal family sedan. On arrival our dogs stretched their legs and ran around freely in the large fenced garden and began exploring the river in front of the cottage, it was great having the peace of mind knowing they were safe with the river banks that had a gradual slope before getting deep. We decided to start with an early braai, with ample free wood and firelighters supplied. The views from the undercover “stoep” were spectacular and the combined sounds of the river, birdlife, and farm life lulled us into a tranquil state making us forget about the city life we left behind only two hours earlier. After enjoying our braai with the complimentary home-baked bread we retired into the cottage and started our second fire in the large fireplace in the spacious lounge. The owners have managed to blend upmarket comfortable finishes with large couches while still maintaining the rustic charm of a river cottage. The bedrooms were just as amazing and we quickly faded away into one of the best nights sleep we have had in ages. Early the next morning we were awoken by our Dog’s eager to get out of the cottage to start the next days exploring. After the dogs managed to convince us at 6:00 am to get up we made ourselves a coffee which we enjoyed with the delicious complimentary rusks. Now, this is where it becomes tricky, what to do? I wanted to go for a run with the dogs while my husband wanted to fish. The perfect compromise, we each did our own thing. When I left with the dogs for the run, my husband walked all along the river which is only 15 m away from the cottage!! When one travels throughout the country writing reviews and blogs, one tends to put each Destination into its own little box, “ideal for bird lovers”, “nice place to relax”,”fisherman’s paradise”, but not so easy this time around. How do you categorize a place that has it all? So as much as I hate Cliches, let’s list a few. “Home from Home” “Escape the Rat Race” “Dream Vacation” Ok, let’s settle for Wow! Bass Haven is, in a nutshell, the place that has it all, so if you are planning a romantic weekend, a family getaway, need a place to come write your memoirs or catch up on work with the free wifi, then this is the place to book. Bass Haven is more than just “pets allowed” but truly pet-friendly. P.S I would book again just for the amazing farm bread
