Born to be Wild – Freedom of Motorbikes and Open Roads
One of K-9 Adventures’ missions is to find those little hidden gems, the places that everyone does not necessarily know about. This time the road led us to Freedom 301, a Multisensory Restaurant just outside Paarl.
We first had a walk around the Freedom Weekend Market next door to stretch our legs and build up our appetite before walking over to Freedom 301 Restaurant. When anyone says Paarl all you think of is Hot. Needless to say, it was a very hot day, but the restaurant overlooks a dam and it felt like you just travelled to a different place.
When you think of the song “Born to be Wild” you think of Motorbikes and Open Roads. Well, that is what it feels like walking into Freedom 301, as you are surrounded by 30 limited edition bikes dating back to the 1920s. Once we managed to focus long enough after admiring all these bikes our friendly waiter showed us to our table, the breeze coming over the dam cooled us down nicely.
The menu is exactly what you would expect from a bike bar. Simple, Delicious, no ingredients that you need to first google. While trying to figure out what looks the nicest the waiter came around with a bowl of freshly popped popcorn to snack on and a bowl of water for the dogs. You also receive a spanner with your table number which fits in with the décor and feel of the place.
Michael ended up going with the traditional burger and an ice-cold beer while I decided to be a bit more adventurous ordering the Bobotie bitterbalen, Chips and a delicious glass of Rose. When the food arrived we were blown away by the size and quality. Needless to say, do not eat breakfast before going to Freedom 301 Restaurant. The meal comes with the complete diner feel with the burger wrapped in paper and chips on the side.
While having our burgers we watched some of the children playing giant Jenga on the lawn. They cater to everyone from Bikers to Dog lovers to Families with children who need space to run and play
After our delicious meal, we browsed the dessert menu so that we would know for next time. Freedom 301 Restaurant has become 1 of our go-to spots if we are on a road trip in the area and want to stop for lunch on the way home.
