Although it is not uncommon for someone to do the Cape Town 13 peaks in order to raise money for Charity, it is however unique that Bella, my 4 legged running companion will be the first dog to complete all 13 peaks in order to raise money for a charity of our choice.
The charity we are raising funds for is Huis Horison in Stellenbosch.
Horizon House is a non-profit company responsible for its own funding. In order to run a financially sustainable centre, we have to supplement our income with donations, sales, fundraising, events and bequests. Based on their intellectual abilities and interests, the residents join one of ten work areas. This allows them to make a meaningful contribution through sewing, recycling, repair work, cooking, gardening or something else in a sheltered environment. At the same time, the work areas offer therapeutic value and all the benefits of a proper job – servitude, recognition, pride, self-esteem, companionship, quality of life and hope
Our aim is to do the 13 peaks over 5 weeks and our program will be as follows:
19 September, Signal Hill to Platteklip, going over Lions Head
10 October, Platteklip to Suikerbossie, going over Maclears, Grootkop and Judas Peak
17 October, Suikerbossie to Chapmans Peak Hiking Trail, going over Klein Leeukop and Suther Peak
24 October, Chapmans Peak Hiking Trail to Silvermine Parking, going over Chapmans Peak and Noordhoek
31 October, Silvermine Parking to Constantia Neck Circle, going over Muizenberg Peak and Constantia Berg
7 November Constantia Neck back to Signal Hill, going over Klassenkop and Devils Peak
