Kaaimans River Cottage - Kaaimans River, N2, Wilderness

3 Dogs, all our bags for the weekend, and a fishing rod in tow, we are faced with the dilemma of how to cross the river to our final destination. The only way over the Kaaimans river is with a little rowboat, so here comes in the “wordsum”, how do we get everything dry on the other side of the river. Taking the dogs over first might cause them to panic, taking the dogs with all our bags might mean we all end up in the river. We ended up going with option 1.

Finally, across, we start to unpack, and most importantly we start the fire for our evening braai.
Kaaimans River Cottage is a lovely 3 bedroom house on the side of Kaaimans River. Whether you have a good book to read or a weekend fisherman this cottage definitely ticks all the boxes. Inside you have no electricity unless you run the generator (but to be honest we rather use torches than listen to a generator), there is a gas fridge and gas geyser, which I feel is the most important things for a weekend.

Waking up with the view of the river is idealistic, making a nice big pot of coffee on the fire is not something that gets done every day. Storm enjoyed nothing more than to stare down the river at the people rowing past (you see a kayak with a dog or two on it every now and then).

On Saturday Storm and I went for a little row to try and find the famous Kaaimans waterfall, we did not get that far but enjoyed the row nonetheless. Storm enjoyed trying out her life jacket during this row, and she models it every chance she gets.

Michael stayed behind at Kaaimans Cottage with the rest of the family and was helping the little girls fish, it ended up being a very successful day.
On Sunday we did a short row in the other direction to the secret Kaaimans Beach where the dogs had a great time. “My dogs does not play with a Frisbee”, famous last words when I was offered a special dog Frisbee by Foxy Dog Toys.

After a very busy weekend, Storm was completely buggered and passed out on the drive home.
