So our final leg has arrived, tagging our last peak on the list (Devils Peak).
We arrived at Cecillia Forrest at 07:00 to meet up with the rest of the group. Bella fresh as ever and ready to take on the day. As Murphy would have it, the last day is the only day with the perfect weather. Warm, but not too warm, no wind and no clouds in sight.
The first 9 km we stayed under the trees, following the contour path until we reached Nursary Revine; After that it was up, up and away. Halfway up to the saddle we ran out of water, Bella and I started hiking a bit slower hoping to find water soon. At the top of Devils Peak we had a nice rest in the shade waiting for the group, after which we started to slowly move down looking for water. Luckily we did not have to travel far to find the fresh little stream, this is where we decided to wait for the rest of our group. Luckily we did not have to wait long, and from the little stream it was downhill all the way to Signall Hill.
The worst part was when we had to run on the road from Devils Peak all the way to the Signall Hill Beacon. Bella and I both prefer to stay off road, but it had been a long day and we wanted to take the quickest way back.
At the start of Platteklip a guy was selling ice cold Coke and Water, we did a very quick pitstop for some coke, and there was another little stream for Bella.
As always Bella took everything in her stride, making the uphills look so easy (suppose it helps when you have 4 legs instead of 2).
This was quite a journey, traveling a total of 131 km covering 13 peaks in only 6 weeks (or 6 days depending on how you look at it). Bella will be taking a bit of a break while planning her next adventure.
We raised a total of R 1600 for Huis Horison, aiming at making it a total of R 3000 before Christmas. It is not a huge amount, but every bit makes a difference. https://www.givengain.com/ap/vicki-fox-raising-funds-for-huis-horison-29420/
We would not have been able to do this without the following sponsors:
K-9 Adventures for the Paw-ta Bowl and “Padkos” for Bella
TrailhoundSA for the sports harness
Benlu Collar for the designer collar
Pets in Balance for the physio session after every leg (only realizing after we started how badly Bella needed it)
Untamed Animal Health for the hip and joint herbs
Back on Track for the recovery jersey
And last but not least, all our followers, for making a donation to Bella’s charity of choice helping her make a difference. https://www.givengain.com/ap/vicki-fox-raising-funds-for-huis-horison-29420/
