Johannesburg is the Hub for dog shows. Last month, we travelled up from Cape Town, and not knowing Johannesburg at all I had no idea where to start looking for accommodation. After weeks of searching for pet-friendly accommodation on AirBnb I eventually came across a pet-friendly house listing in Blairgowrie. Being a solo traveller with just one dog, I decided to share the accommodation with friends also travelling for the show and their 3 border collies
.

One of the main perks when looking for accommodation is the space that the dogs have, an enclosed yard is first choice allowing the dogs to roam stress free without us having to worry about them. Travelling with 4 border collies makes an enclosed yard almost non-negotiable, and the house we found started ticking all the boxes. After the long trip I am sure the dogs found it “Paw-some” as well.

The House in Blairgowrie, Randburg was only 30 min from Goldfields Kennel club where the shows are held and 50 min from OR Tambo Airport, so coming from Cape Town and having experienced heavy traffic I thought these travel times are quite descent.
The house offered everything that we needed and more. There was a nice study area for working from home, a dining area big enough for all of us to have supper together, and everything we could think of was provided in the well-equipped kitchen (for making our meals to take with to the show). The house consists of 3 stylish bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. More than enough space for longer stays. It was also in a very safe suburb, making this Capetonian far more relaxed in the unfamiliar environment. We enjoyed the neat spotless home that offered everything, and without a doubt, we will book again next year when we make the trip again.
Cobalt and I travelled up for the Gauteng Agility Regional trails, which is a 3-day event with 250 dogs entered per day. We left the Blairgowrie house every morning at 6:00 for the 30-minute drive. My GPS kept life interesting by taking us a different route each time, driving past open bakeries (I was extremely tempted to stop and thinking back now really wish I did), beautiful schools, and churches. Neighbourhood Square is close to the showgrounds for any last-minute shopping or takeaways for supper.
We enjoyed our stay so much that we were sad to leave on Monday morning to fly back to Cape Town. I almost started to think I need to convince my husband to move up 😊
If you have not booked your accommodation yet for the KUSA SA Championships in June, I can highly recommend the house in Blairgowrie
